Laverne Watkins

Laverne R. Watkins, 78, of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at her home in Pryor. Laverne was born on June 9, 1934 in Mayes County, the daughter of D. H. and Ona Whorton. Laverne graduated from Pryor High School in 1952 and was married to Jerry Watkins that same year. They moved to California in 1963 and returned back to Pryor in 1991, where Laverne worked as a real estate agent. She enjoyed golfing, bridge and fishing. She will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in the Graham Memorial Cemetery with her son, Reverend Rick Watkins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shipman's Funeral Cremation Service. She is survived by her husband, Jerry of the home; three sons, Rick and his wife, Anita of Australia, Ron and his wife, Carol of Bixby, OK and Randy and his wife, Kim of Huntington Beach, CA; one brother, D.H. Whorton of Springfield, MO; two sisters, Dorothy Packard of Pryor, OK, Nita Elund of LaQuinta, CA and Cleo Sliepcevich of Norman, OK; many other relatives and friends. Laverne was preceded in death by one brother, J. D. Whorton; two sisters, Reana Griffith and LaRue Doss.
