Carol Dean (Shipp) Layton, 68, of Pryor, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at her home. She was born on October 13, 1951 in Mulberry, Arkansas; the daughter of Virgil Oyed and Mae Marie (McCarty) Shipp. She married Loyd Ray Layton on December 14, 1970 in Miami, Oklahoma and they have celebrated 49 years of marriage. She was a member of the North Elliott Church of God and have lived in the Mayes County area most of her life, coming from Mulberry, Arkansas. Carol loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, and liked Louis L’amour and her daily devotional books the most, watching Sci – Fi movies, including Godzilla and Jaws. Carol loved flowers and gardening, cooking and baking, especially around the holidays. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and caring grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m, Tuesday, January 7, 2020 in the North Elliott Church of God in Pryor. Burial will follow in the Graham Memorial Cemetery. Carol is survived by her husband, Loyd Layton of home; daughters, Donnell Layton of Adair, Oklahoma, Raylene (Layton) Zemke and husband Michael of Catoosa, Oklahoma, step daughters, Delonna Layton of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Arlene Fehly of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step son, Stephen Kilgore and wife Deanna of Pryor, Oklahoma; sisters, Faye Rudd of Pryor, Oklahoma, Linda Coverdell and husband Calvin of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; sister in law, Sarah Shipp of Pryor, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded by her parents, Oyed and Mae Shipp, brothers, Virgil Shipp, Kenny Shipp, and Carl Wayne Shipp; and sister, Oleta Fryrear.
