Joanna Mirise

January 30, 1934 ~ August 19, 2019 (age 85)

Joanna Mirise, 85, of Pryor, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019 at her home. She was born on January 30, 1934 in Pryor; the daughter of Larkin “Hap” and Mabel (Washam) Jackson.  She was a Pryor High School graduate of the Class of 1951 and went on to earn her nursing degree in 1954 from the St. John Nursing School in Tulsa.  Joanna married Herbert Mirise on June 1, 1954 in the Chapel at St. John’s in Tulsa. She loved quilting and won many best in shows and awards for her quilts. She also enjoyed working outdoors, especially with her cows and gardening. She especially loved irises. Joanna was a member of the Pryor First United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending service and church activities when she was able. She leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roger Parker officiating. Burial will be held in the Benge Cemetery in Strang with Cory White, Chad Martin, Ronnie Jackson, Paul Brown, Gary Carman, Bo Sampson, and Clint Jackson serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 26, 2019 at Shipman’s Funeral Home. Joanna is survived by daughters, Belinda Minear of Pryor, Oklahoma, Rebecca Schaefer of Pryor, Oklahoma, Melissa Brown and husband Paul Pryor, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Cory White, Katherine Polk, Chad Martin, Sara Schaefer, and Amy Schaefer; 7 great grandchildren, Mikhayla Minear, Zoe White, Cooper Martin, Izzy White, Raylan Martin, Zayla White, and Aspen Polk; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Larkin “Hap” and Mabel Jackson, husband, Herbert Mirise; sister, Betty Jackson, and brothers, Ronald “Ron” Jackson, Sr., and Jerry Jackson.
