Reverend Woodrow Ross

Obituary

Reverend Woodrow Ross, 89, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, November 20th, 2019 in Kenwood, Oklahoma; the son of Joseph and Takey Ross (Wickliffe). Woodrow married Joan Davis August 20th, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Salina, Oklahoma. He worked for Cherokee Nation as an Inspection Supervisor. Woodrow had many hobbies and accomplishments in his life. Some of those include fishing, especially gigging fishing with his friends and family, taking care of his cows, bowling, playing dominos and he had a love for going to football games. Woodrow also served our country in the Army. He received many medals; United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal. Woodrow was also featured in 2 documentaries; “Trail of Tears: National Historic Trail” and “We Shall Remain: America Through Native Eyes” PBS miniseries episode 3. He was a pastor at Ribbon, Brush Creek, Cedar Tree, Euwasha, and Emmanuel Churches. In the 1970’s, Woodrow spent time as a school board member of Kenwood schools. He was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew him.

Visitation services will be held Sunday, November 24th, 2019 at Shipman’s Funeral & Cremation Service in Pryor, Oklahoma from 6pm–8pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 25th, 2019 at 2pm in the Kenwood School Gym in Kenwood, Oklahoma.

Woodrow is survived by his wife, Lorene Ross of Salina, Oklahoma; 2 sons, Anthony and wife Carolyn Ross of Kenwood, Oklahoma, Michael and Gerri Ross of Kenwood, Oklahoma; 2 daughters, Faye Ross of Kenwood, Oklahoma, Janice and Daniel Ballou of Kenwood, Oklahoma; 11 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Woodrow proceeds in death by his wife, Joan Ross (Davis); son, Calvin Ross; great grandson, Isaiah Sapp; parents Joseph and Takey Ross; brother Forman Ross and sister Maxine Bark Tucker (Ross).
