Shirley Jean Blaylock, 80, of Salina, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 in Tulsa. She was born on January 27, 1939 in Garber, Oklahoma; the daughter of Jesse and Mayme (Krivohlavek) Hutcherson. She graduated from Covington in 1957. Shirley married the love of her life, Darrell Blaylock in the Christian Church in Covington, Oklahoma on February 13, 1960. Shirley and Darrell owned and operated Salina Food Mart for 27 years in Salina. They have lived in the Mayes County area since 1972, coming from Oklahoma City. Shirley was active in her community and was a member of the Eastern Star, Booster Club, Chamber of Commerce, and she loved attending her Sunday School Class at Lakeview Baptist Church. She loved her family time, Branson trip with the girls, camping trips, and playing Yahtzee with her grandkids. Shirley and Darrell were members of Lakeview Baptist Church and she looked forward to attending church services and church activities. She volunteered once a week for the last five years at her granddaughter’s school at ELC in Locust Grove. Darrell served as Mayor of Salina for years, and during that time Shirley was known as the “First Lady of Salina.” Her favorite time of year was the fall and she enjoyed spending time outdoors. She looked forward to spending time with those she loved most and cherished each moment she had to spend with them. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who leaves behind many memories for her family and friends to cherish.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2019 in the Lakeview Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Belew officiating. Burial will follow in the Bryan Chapel Cemetery with Cody Blaylock, Jesse Blaylock, Bryant Burns, Brad Reed, Nate Carnes, and Chad Cox serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Ray Gene Pritchett, Nick Tramel, Wayne Backward, Darrell Johnson, and Paul Wayne Hocutt. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Shipman’s Funeral Home. Shirley is survived by her husband, Darrell Blaylock of the home; son, Darrell David Blaylock and wife Shelly of Salina, Oklahoma; daughters, Debbie Matlock and husband David of Salina, Oklahoma and Diana Burns and Steve Wallace of Connerville, Oklahoma; brother, Jack Hutcherson and wife Carolyn of Tuttle, Oklahoma; sisters, Sandra Spillman of Bethany, Oklahoma, Ruby Graham of Norman, Oklahoma; sister in law, Jo Aker of Salina, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mayme Hutcherson and her in laws, Lowell and Iva Blaylock and Lottie and Lad Krivohlavek.
