Eva Barber

September 14, 1928 — October 23, 2011

Eva May Barber, of Adair, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2011. She was born on September 14, 1928 west of Big Cabin, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jacob and Dottie Steeber. At age five, she moved with her family to a farm southeast of Big Cabin. That same year she was baptized near Delaware School, a mile from her home. Later that year, her sister "Beth" was born. Eva lived on the family farm until she married Harry Barber, Jr. at age 17. Three years later, her daughter Teresa was born. They later moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma where they resided until 1959. While in Sand Springs, she worked at Kerr Glass Company, and her husband worked at Unit Rig of Tulsa. Eva and Jr. purchased the Steeber family farm when her parents retired. She and Jr. ran a dairy and ranch operation for many years. Eva and Jr. were foster parents from 1965 to 1972. They both were hard workers and enjoyed each other's company a great deal. Eva enjoyed helping her husband fix fence or any outside chore. In her retirement years, after her husband died in 1991, she continued ranching, then had a new house built and lived there for another 6 years. After living 3 years with her daughter, she suffered a fall and fractured her hip, which led to a 3 year stay in a nursing care facility. Eva's hobbies included crafting, sewing, painting and playing cards. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 1,2011 in the Pleasant Hope Cemetery west of Adair, Oklahoma with Eddy Mathews officiating. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 6465 South Yale, Suite 312, Tulsa, OK 74136.
