Carl James Smith, 65, of Salina, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 in Pryor. He was born on October 23, 1954 in Claremore, Oklahoma; the son of Clarence and Marian (Cochran) Smith. Carl was a 1974 graduate of Salina High School. He worked various jobs throughout Mayes County, including the Pryor Foundry for many years. He was very artistic and enjoyed woodworking and making canes. He also loved spending time outdoors and going fishing and hunting when he was able. He attended Blue Springs Church in Salina. Carl had a love for children and enjoyed visiting with those he loved most. He leaves behind many memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2020 in the Blue Springs Church with Reverend Lorne Beck officiating. Burial will follow in the Grass Cemetery in Salina with Charlie Pickup, Chad Gilley, Rylee Smith, Sean Smith, Skake Kingfisher, and Wahoo Beaver serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Brandt Beaver, Shaelin Beaver, Dustin Laconsello, Patrick Beaver, Stanley Pickup, Spencer Kingfisher, Brandon Smith and Jeremy Smith. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020 in the Shipman’s Funeral Chapel. Carl is survived by his sons, Justin Smith and wife Terrie of Pryor, Oklahoma; Eric Smith and wife Jennifer of Pryor, Oklahoma and Shane Smith and Jamie Beaver of Salina, Oklahoma; daughter he never had, Johnna White; brothers, Frank Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Larry Chancellor and wife Cindy of Pryor, Oklahoma, Gene Smith and wife Tarra of Claremore, Oklahoma and Dale Smith of Salina, Oklahoma; sisters, Joyce Chambers and husband Rob of Salina, Oklahoma, Pat Beaver of Salina, Oklahoma and Clarissa Gilley and husband Charlie of Salina, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marian Smith; brother, Jerry Chancellor; granddaughter, Candice Jade; and great granddaughter, Nylah Jade.
