A member of the St Mark Catholic Church, a devoted Catholic, Celene volunteered many years as religious instructor and eucharistic minister and was a member of the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre. She lived an active and independent life, traveling and participating in many ways to help others. Her acts of kindness extended beyond family and friends. She sponsored a young boy in Guatemala many times, as well as other countries, but Guatemala remained a special place to her.

She shared both her passion for pottery, as well as her creations with others and for the benefit of St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Her career included employment at the city drug store, Pryor Jeffersonian, Mayes County Election Board, Board of County Commissioners, and Mayes County Treasurer. Following her retirement, she volunteered in the formation of the Rogers County Adult Care and later was employed part time at the Rogers County Health Department with the Rogers County Senior Companion Program.

She is survived by her children, John Martin Hogan, Diann Stapleton, and Janea Hogan; and her grandson, Dodge Martin Hogan, the joy of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Margo Propst and husband Bill; brothers, Tom McCoy and wife Virginia, and George McCoy and wife Gerda; three nieces; and seven nephews.
