Connie Rae
Atchison
August 29, 1942 – April 11, 2026
Connie Rae (McQueary) Kinion - Atchison, age 83, of Adair, Oklahoma, passed away on April 11, 2026, in Claremore, Oklahoma. She was born on August 29, 1942, in Bethel, Ohio, to Osborne and Nellie (Barger) McQueary. Connie was raised with strong values of hard work and determination—qualities that stayed with her throughout her life and shaped the legacy she leaves behind. On February 8, 1960, she married James Kinion; following his passing, she returned to Ohio in 1969 to raise their children and be closer to her family. In 1981, Connie made Adair her home, where she became a well-known and respected part of the community. She was the proud owner and operator of the Adair Main Street Mall and Nellie’s Nook, a business inspired by her mother that reflected her love for family, hospitality, and bringing people together. Connie had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. She loved traveling, especially her trips to Arizona, browsing antique auctions, and spending time outdoors tending to her flower beds or mowing her yard. She was also the founder of “Christmas in the Country,” an event she started in 1997 that brought the community together and created lasting traditions for many families in the Adair area. If there was music playing, Connie was sure to be found dancing—something she truly loved. Connie will be remembered for her strong spirit, her love for her family, and the mark she left on her community. Her life was one of purpose, independence, and care for those around her—qualities that will not be forgotten.
She is survived by her daughters, Ginger Wilson and husband Darryl of Adair, Oklahoma, and Patty Hugley and husband Darren of Adair, Oklahoma; her brother, Lloyd McQueary and wife Charlene of Sardinia, Ohio; her sister, Bonnie Richardson and husband John of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren, Justin Wilson, Dustin Wilson, Terrin Wyen, Tanner Hugley, and Kane Kinion; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, Osborne and Nellie McQueary; her husband, James Kinion; her son, Chuck Kinion; her grandson, Tyler Kinion; and her brother, Robert McQueary.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026, in the Adair Cemetery in Adair with Pastor Steve Bear officiating and her grandchildren, Justin Wilson, Dustin Wilson, Terrin Wyen, Tanner Hugley, and Kane Kinion serving as honorary casket bearers.
