Edna Downing

Edna Mae Downing, 82, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010 in Pryor, Oklahoma. She was born on November 3, 1927 in Christie, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Thomas Vaughan and Susie (Redbird) Vaughan. Edna was a longtime resident of Locust Grove, Oklahoma moving there from Proctor, Oklahoma. She married Chester Downing in November 1948 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together they made their home in Locust Grove. Edna loved raising flowers and also growing her own vegetables which she canned. She loved taking care of her family and her wonderful cooking was enjoyed by all. She loved her church and felt it was very important to support individual missionaries from around the world. Edna loved her Lord and enjoyed reading her Bible. She was a wonderful woman of faith who leaves the legacy of love of God and Family for her family to cherish and follow. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, March 15, 2010, in the Heritage Baptist Church in Pryor with Reverend David Downing officiating. Interment will be in the McClain Cemetery in Locust Grove with Butch Nichols, Billy Peoples, Tyler Ragsdale, Ritchie Richardson, Cody Asher and Doyle Cole serving as casket bearers. Edna is survived by her children, Reverend David Downing and wife, Ruth Ellen of Wynona, OK, Patricia Moffett and husband, Dwayne of Pryor, OK, Donna Gwartney and husband, J.E., of Rose, OK and Sandra Downing of Locust Grove, OK; her brother, Leroy é��â‚é..."Peteé��â‚é�� Vaughan of Locust Grove, OK; her sister, Janie Fleming and husband, Homer of Locust Grove, OK; 6 grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester in 2005; three brothers; four sisters; her parents, James and Susie Vaughan.
