Fonda Gail Hughes, 43, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on May 2, 2026, in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Fonda lived life hands-on and on her own terms. She worked a variety of jobs over the years, most recently serving as a Security Guard with Garda. No matter where she was, she brought a willingness to work hard and figure things out—she truly was a jack of all trades.
She found her peace outdoors. Whether it was time spent at the river, working in the yard, or simply being with her dogs, that’s where she was most at home. Fonda had a natural talent for tinkering and fixing things, and a true green thumb that showed in everything she grew and cared for.
More than anything, Fonda cherished her role as a grandmother. Her granddaughter, Ruby, was the light of her life. She loved spending time with her, making memories in the simple, everyday moments—whether it was being outside, playing, or just enjoying each other’s company. Ruby brought out a special kind of joy in Fonda that everyone around her could see.
Fonda is survived by her daughter, Alexis Upchurch and husband Max of Noble, Oklahoma; her beloved granddaughter, Ruby Upchurch; her brothers, Joshua Evans and wife Nikki of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, and Martin Evans of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her nephew, James Evans; her niece, Rosemary Evans; along with extended family and those who knew and cared for her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Wanda (Rose) Evans.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, at New Home Cemetery with Pastor Scott Goodwin officiating. Honorary casket bearers include Max Upchurch, Joshua Evans, Martin Evans, Brody Phillips, Joey Hughes, and Eli Hughes. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor.
