Gerald Ritter Obituary (2024) - Pryor, Oklahoma (gather.app)Gerald Dwight Ritter, a devoted family man, respected chemical engineer, and Air Force veteran, passed away on April 15, 2024, at his home. He was born on May 8, 1932, in Guymon, Oklahoma, and lived a life marked by adventure, dedication, and love. In the realm of work, Gerald dedicated many years of his life to serving as a chemical engineer for Phillips 66 Petroleum. His job took him to various corners of the world, allowing him to explore different cultures and landscapes while excelling in his field. Gerald's passion for his work shone through in every project he undertook, earning him respect and admiration from all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. Not only was Gerald successful in his professional life, but he also bravely served in the Air Force. During his time in the military, he spent 4 years stationed in various locations around the world. He received The National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal while serving. It was there that Gerald's skills as an airman truly came to light as he served as a boom operator for inflight refuelers. His time in the Air Force shaped him into the honorable and disciplined man that many knew and cherished. Beyond his career and military service, Gerald found joy in various hobbies and interests that enriched his life. An avid supporter of OSU Cowboys football and Dallas Cowboys football, he cheered passionately for his favorite teams. In addition to sports, Gerald shared a deep bond with his wife, Bonnie Ritter whom he married on November 5, 1960, in Pampa, Texas. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and companionship. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Pryor, Oklahoma for many years, Gerald found solace and community within its walls. As he entered his later years, he discovered a new passion for knife-making and could often be found tinkering happily around his yard. Gerald will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and kindness that will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor with Dr. Mike Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Graham Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor. Gerald is survived by his wife, Bonnie Ritter of the home; sons, Dwight Ritter and wife Deann of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Jack Ritter and wife Tina of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughter, Thirza McGee and husband Mark of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; sister, Juanita Hill of Perryton, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Ritter; and 2 sisters, and 3 brothers.
