James “Jim” Melvin Henry, 82, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on June 12, 1939 in Pryor, Oklahoma; the son of Clifford Henry and Tressie (Hoover) Henry. Jim married the love of his life, Karein, in December of 1965. Together, they had 2 children, Stuart and Valerie. Jim was a business entrepreneur. He built the medical plaza across from Pryor’s hospital and owned various nursing homes, car washes, carpet stores, a pharmacy, and Patterson’s Flowers. Jim was a faithful member of Word Fellowship in Chouteau and enjoyed attending church services and events. He also was an avid runner. As a Conservative Republican, Jim was involved in politics for most of his life. One of Jim’s favorite pastimes was attending all of his grandson, Grady’s, sporting events. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who leaves behind many wonderful memories for his loved ones to cherish.
Services for Jim will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randal Smolchuck officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 5, 2021 at Shipman’s Funeral Home. To leave his family a message, please visit his Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Jim is survived by his wife, Karein, of the home; son, Stuart Henry of Tulsa; daughter, Valerie Allen and husband Gordon of Claremore; sisters, Jetta Smolchuck of Tulsa and Sharron Pelham of St. Paul, Minnesota; and grandson, Grady. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Tressie.
