James "Skie" Hawkes, Jr.

James “Skie” Wesley Hawkes, Jr, 68, of Pryor, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at his home. He was born on July 31, 1952 in Albuquerque, New Mexico; the son of James Wesley and Barbara (Stirling) Hawkes. He married Vickie on July 24, 1974 in Socorro, New Mexico and have celebrated 46 years of marriage. James loved sports, especially when it came to the Sooners, Yankees, Bears, and Steelers. He coached his kids for many years throughout their sports, and when he was able, loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events.  His love and loyalty to his wife, kids, family and friends had no boundaries. He loved coaching, but had a knack for “disagreeing” with the umpires and referees. He often found himself outside of the ball fields. Rumor has it he once sat in his car blaring his horn for three innings after being ejected from his son’s game. He worked for many years for Dupont in Pryor and his work family was an extension of his family. James loved his friends and family with his whole heart and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

James is survived by his wife, Vickie Hawkes of the home; sons, Tres Hawkes and Chad Hawkes, both of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughters, Toni Roberts and husband Austin of Claremore, Oklahoma and Barbara Hawkes of Pryor, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Ashley, Caitlynn, Cayde, Ty, Camree, and Payton; Aunt; Margaret and husband Gordon Stirling of San Diego, California; and many cousins and many more friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Barbara Hawkes, and his lifelong best friend, Pat Baca; and many aunts, uncles and dear friends.
