On Sunday, December 14, 2025, Jean Laverne Simer went to join her husband in the life after this.

She was preceded by her husband Hugh Alexander Simer, her parents Jewel George Jenkins and Carrie Jacy (Bufford) Jenkins, her brothers David and Johnny, and her sister Marjorie.

Those of us left behind include her sister Betty Gardiner. Others she loved and left behind include her sons, Curtis (Amy), Timothy (Cindy) and Marvin, and her Grandchildren: Katherine Hartrum, William, Patricia, Curtis Simer, Jennifer Black, Rachael Allen, Henri and Jade Simer; and Great Grandchildren: Zara, Ryker, Calvin, Hailey, Alita, Lance, Oliver, Elliot, and Conner; and her dog Lady.

Jean started life in Texas on July 29, 1944; Jewel and Carrie Jenkins raised Jean and her siblings to work hard and love harder. After graduating high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where she served as a secretary while stationed in California. There she met a handsome young Marine, who swept her off her feet. They were married on October5, 1963, starting a journey of a lifetime with the love of her life Hugh. As their family grew so did their life's adventure, life would take them to many places, each one unique and beautiful would add to their memories.

Jean used these inspirations from her life to add flavor, beauty, and color wherever she was; either with the food she loved to cook or her art (she was a talented painter and quilt maker) as well as an accomplished gardener, she could get things to grow almost anywhere.

Jean leaves us with a legacy of love that will bloom, not just in neat and tended garden rows, but also in the quiet corner and crevices of our lives. Every time we see a flower bloom in an unusual spot, we can remember her and her love for each of us.
