Joann Louise Unruh

July 27, 1935 — May 29, 2022

Pryor

Joann Louise Unruh was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She entered into the arms of our Lord Jesus on May 29, 2022 at age 86. She leaves behind many memories for her family to cherish.

She was born on July 27, 1935 in Inola, Oklahoma; the daughter of Waldo and Agatha (Froese) Funk.

She grew up on a farm with her sister Janice. They have many stories of the farm life. After graduating from high school, Joann had been accepted into nursing school at Bethel School of Nursing in Newton, Kansas and she'd found her calling.  Then Tony came home from volunteer service and swept her away in marriage.  They were married November 24, 1956 in the Eden Mennonite Church in Inola, Oklahoma and they spent 52 years together before Tony’s passing in 2010. After getting married they moved to Chicago for construction work, where they lived for a few years and before returning to Inola. There they had 2 children: Sandra Louise and David Mark.

Joann loved sitting at her house on Lake Hudson and enjoyed the beautiful view, feeding the birds, and watching them. She also loved her cats and enjoyed tending to her flowers. Joann liked to sing and looked forward to attending services at Eden Mennonite Church, where she was a longtime member. Joann loved being a grandmother to her 3 grandkids and a great grandmother to her 4 great grandkids. Her greats called her great grandma Roo. One thing Joann never missed was her devotions. Every morning she liked to spend time in her Bible and read multiple devotions that she’d share with the rest of the family if she felt lead to.

She had a heart for people and helping and always would be consistent in her donations to her favorite charities.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Eden Mennonite Church with Pastor Dave Wiens officiating. To leave her family a message, please visit her Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Shipman’s Funeral & Cremation Service.

Joann is survived by her son, Mark Unruh and wife Rhonda of Inola, OK; sister, Janice Jantz and husband Ronald of Plano, TX; 3 grandchildren, Chris Unruh of Ponca City, OK, Tony Juarez and wife Jenna of Wichita, KS and Sasha Biddinger and husband Brett of Ponca City OK. ; 4 great grandchildren, Kenlee, Andi, Bretley, and Thomas Biddinger; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Agatha Funk, husband Tony Unruh, and daughter, Sandra Juarez.
