John Windel Vaughn Sr., age 78, of Chouteau, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at home with his family gathered at his side.
John was born to William and Lennie (Burson) Vaughn, on October 4, 1945, in Highfill, Arkansas. He married the love of his life, Kathryn Blood, on January 25, 1969, at Inola First Baptist Church. Together they raised six children, John Jr, Claude, Norma, Barbara, Victoria and Jeanette.
Spending time outdoors was one of John’s favorite things, whether it be hunting, fishing, or tending to his vegetable garden. He enjoyed being surrounded by nature and the beauty it created. His biggest passion in life however, was helping those around him. He was known for his generous and caring nature. Family was also important to John and spending time with those he loved brought him happiness and joy.
Left behind to honor John’s memory are his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Vaughn; sons, John Windel Vaughn Jr. and Trudy Johnson, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Claude William Vaughn and wife Regina of Chouteau, Oklahoma; daughters, Jeanette Harp and husband Terry of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Norma Diane Vaughn of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Barbara Vaughn Kvittum and husband Kenny of Chouteau, Oklahoma, and Victoria Ann Vaughn of Chouteau, Oklahoma; brother, Jerry Vaughn of Sandusky, Oklahoma; sisters, Naomi Barnett of Catoosa, Oklahoma, Linda Shaw of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Verna Lee Moss of Neosho, Missouri, and Jody Blakemore of Springdale, Arkansas; as well many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lennie Vaughn; brothers, William Vaughn, David Vaughn, Gerald Vaughn, Al Vaughn, and Tom Vaughn; and sisters, Helen Gaiche and Juanita Williamson.
