Johnnie Murphy, 80, was born on September 30, 1946, in Fallbrook, California and passed away on October 16, 2026, in Pryor, Oklahoma.
Johnnie was energy itself—a man whose lively spirit, quick wit, and sense of humor left an impression on those who knew him. He loved his family and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially a good game of cards and the opportunity to keep those around him laughing.
Johnnie had a special talent for keeping the nurses on their toes, giving them a hard time whenever he had the chance. It was just part of his personality and one of the ways he brought his own brand of humor into every situation. His brother also fondly remembers Johnnie’s great John Wayne impression, a reminder of the character and personality that made him one of a kind.
Johnnie will be remembered for his spirited nature, his humor, and the memories he created with the people he loved. Though he will be deeply missed, the stories, laughter, and moments shared with him will continue to bring comfort to those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice (Gwartney) Easky; his father, Willie Murphy; his siblings, Willie Jo Murphy, Roy Murphy, and Velma Murphy; and several step-siblings.
He is survived by his sisters, Rachel White and Roxie Vann and husband KK; his brothers, Rick Murphy and Bill Murphy and wife Kathryn; many nieces and nephews and many other extended family members and loved ones who will cherish his memory.
Johnnie’s life was full of spirit, laughter, and personality. He leaves behind memories that will continue to be shared and a presence that will not soon be forgotten.
The family would like to thank Salina Nursing Center for the many years of care they gave Johnnie.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Ross – Mayes Cemetery in Salina.
