Margie Fay Katen, born on November 22, 1925, in Inola, Oklahoma, passed away on July 19, 2025, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 99. She was a beloved matriarch whose life was marked by her vibrant spirit, countless accomplishments, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
Margie’s professional journey began during World War II, where she worked as a riveter at McDonnell Douglas in Tulsa. It was there that she met her future husband, Robert Katen. Their union in 1945 marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership as Margie embraced her role as a homemaker and mother to six children. The values she instilled in her family and the love she shared will be remembered through generations.
She was a woman of many interests and passions. Margie was talented in crocheting and took great pleasure in creating beautiful afghans and lap rugs, particularly for veterans, reflecting her compassion and devotion to those who served. An excellent bowler and golfer, she enjoyed participating in sports and was an avid fan, relishing games both in person and on television. Her volunteer work with the Red Cross blood mobiles showcased her commitment to helping others, at the heart of all she did throughout her life. Above all, Margie loved life and thrived in the company of others, forming deep connections that enriched her experience.
Margie is survived by her sons, Michael Katen and wife Robin of Salina, OK, and Steven Katen and wife Laura of Yukon, OK; daughters, Brenda O'Dell of Jacksonville, FL, Barbara Widner of Pryor, OK, and Donna Hines and husband Neil of Sperry, OK; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Erma (Barker) Billingslea, and Alma Billingslea; her husband, Robert Katen; daughter, Jeanette Key; brother, Jack Billingslea; and sister, Fern Coats.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2025, in the Ross Mayes Cemetery with Father Valentine officiating. A come and go visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor.
