Salina

Marilyn Pierce Merritt passed away on Sunday, September 25th, 2022. Marilyn was born on February 10th, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Russell and Ethylene Pierce. Marilyn shares her birthday with her beloved twin sister and best friend Carolyn. On August 15th, 1969, Marilyn married Tom Merritt- they would raise two children, lovingly spoil five grandchildren, and share a devoted marriage over the next 53 years. Marilyn attended Pryor High School, and obtained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. “Mrs. Merritt”, as many called her, was a passionate educator and counselor who worked in Quapaw, Pryor, and Salina. Marilyn loved to garden, create beautiful designs and quilts with her sewing machine, and cook for her community. Family was the most important thing in Marilyn’s life, including her family at the First Church of God in Pryor, where Marilyn used her servant’s heart to do faithful work in the name of her Lord.  She was a treasured mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. Our love for her is immeasurable. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and met her. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Tom Merritt, sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Ronnie Enyart, daughter and son-in-law Lisa Merritt and Troy Wise, son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Stacy Merritt, and grandchildren Peyton Merritt, Max Merritt, Grayson Wise, Sam Merritt, and Annie Merritt. Marilyn is preceded in death and being welcomed in heaven by her parents Russell and Ethylene Pierce, and brother Jerry Pierce.
