Merle Eugene Gibson passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 2, 1931, in Seven Sands, Oklahoma, to Perry Glenn and Laura BelleGibson. Merle attended school through the eighth grade in Yale, Oklahoma, before proudly serving his country in the United States Army for four years during the Korean War, where he served as a driver for a General. On August 28, 1958, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Leona Wolfkill. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. In January of 1958, Merle started his own business in Oklahoma City. In 1966, he relocated his family to Pryor, Oklahoma, where he continued to work and serve his community.

Merle joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in May of 1972 and held his faith close to his heart throughout his life. In June of 1973, he was sealed to his wife and children in the Manti Temple. He faithfully served in many church callings and found great joy in giving his time to others. His dedication to service also included volunteering with Axil Police (Sheriff), CB Civil Defense, CB Club, and the Boy Scouts of America. He retired in April 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Laura Gibson; nine brothers and sisters; and his eldest son, Kevin Eugene Gibson. Merle is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Elizabeth “Beth” Gibson. He leaves behind his children, Mark Gibson and his wife Shelley, Eric Gibson and his wife Kendra, and daughter Liz Davis and her husband Randy.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tyler Evans; Shelby Harvey and her wife Meaghan; Justin Gibson and his fiancée Kaylee O’Neal; Kyler Gibson and Kynsi Morlan; Kaycee Wood and her husband Montana; Seara Hansen and her husband John; and Austin Folmar. They will greatly miss Gramps’ custom nursery rhymes and silly songs/stories. Merle was a proud great-grandfather to Gavin Harvey, Knox and Madden Gibson, and Raelynn Wood. He is further survived by his sister, Delores Sanders, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
