Mirietues Buchanan, beloved matriarch and cherished member of the Pryor community, departed this mortal plane to be with God. Born on January 16th, 1937 in Pryor, Oklahoma, Mirietues spent most of her 88 years nurturing her family and friends. She embodied kindness and displayed strength through every season of her life. She would not be held down, impeded, or denied.
A devoted community leader, Mirietues volunteered at multiple Pryor elementary schools, including Roosevelt and Lincoln elementary schools. She was able to touch the lives of many children and their families by fostering an environment of love, dedication and understanding. As a parishioner of First Freewill Baptist church, she organized many meals, bible studies, home health checks and more than a few card games. Her love of community and willingness to lend a helping hand is what made her the anchor for her family as well as the surrounding community.
Mirietues focused on her family with even more intensity and dedication than she extended to the community. She gave unwavering support to her late husband, Willard Buchanan, while they started multiple successful businesses. Together they ran a 20-acre farm complete with fresh produce, fruit, nuts and beef. Mirietues and Willard built a loyal and steadfast dynasty. A tradition that is being carried on through countless generations.
Her legacy lives on through her two sons, Riley Buchanan and wife Mari from Ocala, Florida, and Willard Buchanan and his wife Charlotte of Pryor, Oklahoma. Mirietues was a treasured grandmother to eight grandchildren: Samantha, Timmy, Kailey, Tori, Christopher, Tyler, Robert and Michael. They, along with her nine great-grandchildren: Cienna, Quinn, Abram, Adan, Willard, Robert, Grant, Arystan and Ryvan, were the lights of her life. She believed each one of them hung the moon every night. She also leaves behind her beloved brother, Robert Davis of Chouteau, Oklahoma. The love each of her family members have for her is a true testament to her enduring legacy.
Mirietues is preceded in death by her loving husband Willard, as well as sisters Connie Downs and Robbie Davis. They, along with the countless lives she has touched, will always remember her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 13, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at First Free Will Baptist Church, located at 107 S Ora St, Pryor, Oklahoma.
