Opal
Brashears
Jul 1, 1936 — Sep 12, 2026
Pryor
Opal Brashears, 90, of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed away on September 12, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Opal was born the daughter of Riley Edwards and Ruby (Haggarty) Burns. She grew up on a farm, where some of her fondest early memories were spent riding horses. Those early years helped shape the hardworking, caring, and compassionate woman she would become.
Opal devoted much of her life to caring for others. She worked as a nurse aide for many years and later retired from the Claremore Veterans Hospital. Her caring nature extended far beyond her work. For 10 years, Opal opened her home and heart to foster children, providing them with love, stability, and kindness when they needed it most.
A woman of strong faith, Opal was a member of First Baptist Church of Pryor, where she especially enjoyed working with children. She and her husband, Luke, also worked together with the Children’s Evangelism Foundation, sharing their faith and serving children through its ministry.
Opal enjoyed cake decorating and had a creative touch that she loved sharing with those around her. More than anything, she will be remembered for her loving and kind spirit and for the many ways she cared for others throughout her life. Whether through her work, her church, or simply by being there for family and friends, Opal's life was one of service and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Norman Thompson and Luther “Luke” Brashears; her parents, Riley Edwards and Ruby Burns; her stepfather, Noel Burns; her son, Tim Thompson; and her brother, Riley Edwards, II.
Opal is survived by her son, Brent Thompson of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughter, Ranee Littledave and husband Michael of Salina, Oklahoma; brother, Johnny Gifford of Spavinaw, Oklahoma; Joyce Philpot; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Opal leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and caring for others. The many lives she touched throughout her 90 years will continue to carry her memory forward.
