Roy Alvin "Chook" King

February 18, 1946 — February 20, 2023

Salina

Roy Alvin King, also known by many as Chook, 77, of Salina, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Monday, February 20, 2023, at his home. He was born on February 18, 1946, to Lester “Dub” Chancellor and Mary Jane King. On August 14, 1965, he married Marjorie Silversmith and they spent many wonderful years together. He worked as a warehouse supervisor for many years before his retirement from the State of Oklahoma. In his earlier years, he played fastpitch softball and enjoyed the friendships made on the area softball fields. Being an avid outdoorsman, he could often be found going hunting, fishing, gigging for crawdads, and swimming at the creek. He loved any opportunity to be outside, especially when it came to spending time with his family and cooking out at the creek. Even after getting his prosthetic leg, he still found his way into the water. He loved to share the produce from his garden and often gave it to elders within the community. There was always a smile on his face and his sense of humor always had him cutting up and making others laugh. One of his strong suits was brightening up anyone’s day as he often made special handmade art or drawings and handed it out with encouraging and positive notes attached. He leaves behind many wonderful memories for all to cherish and will be dearly missed by many.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Marjorie King of the home; daughter, Charlotte Abbs and husband Eric of Kenwood, OK; brothers, Rex Chancellor and Douglas Chancellor, of Kenwood, OK, and Byron White; sisters, Donna Cooper of Pryor, OK, and Mary Belle Dunlap of Tahlequah, OK; grandchildren, Nate Carnes, Sharla Carnes, and Jeremiah King; and great grandchildren, Kyla, Akeilah, Camille, Cael, Jaycie, and Nolan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dub Chancellor and Mary Jane White; son, Ray King; grandparents, Wesley and Susanna King, and sister, Joyce Chancellor.
