Sheila Gay Lowery, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Edmond, Oklahoma after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born on December 11, 1954, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Wayne Bean and Glenna (Whitley) Shoun.

Sheila loved the Lord first and foremost, and her faith was at the center of the life she lived. She loved her family dearly, along with her little dog, Lucy, her friends, church family, and neighbors. She had a caring and generous heart and found great joy in helping others, whether they were family, friends, or even complete strangers.

Sheila enjoyed spending time outdoors and could often be found mowing, working in the yard, or taking Lucy for a walk. Her love for animals also led her to volunteer at the Chouteau dog pound, where she cleaned kennels and spent time walking and caring for the dogs.

Serving others was an important part of Sheila's life. Over the years, she volunteered at hospitals through three different agencies and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever one was needed. Sheila also treasured the fellowship she shared with her church families at Creekside and First Free Will Baptist Church.

In her younger years, Sheila enjoyed camping, boating, and water skiing. She had a special love for Branson, Missouri, where she lived on four different occasions and loved every minute of her time there. While in Branson, she made many wonderful friends, found a church family she cherished, and enjoyed attending the many music shows the area had to offer.

Some of Sheila's greatest joys came from her two children and their families. She enjoyed eating out with friends, spending time in church fellowship, attending Shipman's Bingo, and reading God's Word, the Holy Bible. Her faith remained a constant source of strength throughout her life, and Romans 8:28 held special meaning:

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God."

Sheila is survived by her son, Kristopher Lowery and wife Tonya of Abbott, Texas; daughter, Heather McElwain of Edmond, Oklahoma; brother, David Jackson and wife Elizabeth of Red Lion, Pennsylvania; sister, Sharon Carrick and husband Roy of Muskogee, Oklahoma; her grandson Tanner McElwain and his wife Sierra, two granddaughters Tamela and Jessalyn; and one great-granddaughter, Lily. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Lucy, along with many extended family members, church family, neighbors, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne Bean and Glenna (Whitley) Shoun.

Sheila will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her servant's heart, her love for her family and animals, and the kindness she so freely shared with those around her. The many lives she touched through her friendship, service, and generosity will remain a lasting reflection of a life devoted to loving God and caring for others. Her family would like to thank Trinity Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
