Sonia Lee (Longmire) Epperson passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at her home of almost 70 years surrounded by her family, at the age of 89. She was born on March 4, 1937, in Shidler, Oklahoma, to W.H. and Oleta Longmire. She married Bob Epperson on October 20, 1956, and they spent many years together.

Sonia was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Epperson; and her granddaughter, Nancy Collins. She is survived by her son, John Epperson; her daughter, Cindy Pollet; and her sisters, Mona Forrest and Betty Showler; as well as her grandsons, Ty Epperson and John David Epperson.

Sonia devoted more than 30 years to teaching within the Baptist church and faithfully served through music. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ and also served as choir director. Her love for music and ministry touched many lives throughout the years.

Outside of church, Sonia enjoyed being active and spending time with those she loved. She was part of bowling leagues in Vinita and Pryor and was proud to have won a state bowling tournament. She also cherished family vacations in Colorado, a tradition she enjoyed for 11 years in a row. Sonia loved riding 4-wheelers in the mountains, going on family canoe trips and road trips, traveling in camper trailers, and fishing with Sam and Martha.

Sonia will be remembered for her quiet strength, kind heart, faithfulness, and the love she shared with family and friends. She brought warmth, wisdom, and joy to the lives of many, and her memory will continue to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel with Ty Epperson officiating.
