Thurman Clay Hibbard, 92, born on June 6, 1932, passed away on September 22, 2024, leaving behind a legacy marked by dedication, faith, and love. Thurman's life was a tapestry woven with a deep commitment to his community and an unwavering bond with his family, particularly with his beloved wife, Loretta Jones. Their love story began on January 31, 1953, in Uniontown, Arkansas, and together they journeyed through 71 beautiful years of marriage, filled with joyous moments and countless cherished memories. Loretta’s recent passing earlier this year has left a profound void in Thurman’s heart, but the love they shared continued to shine brightly. Thurman was a man of many talents and passions. He devoted much of his working life to waste management, helping to keep his community clean and thriving. In his later years, he embraced the role of a subdivider, contributing to the growth of the area he loved. A proud accomplishment in his life was playing a significant role in the construction of the Cross on the prairie in Adair, a project that resonated deeply with his faith and sense of purpose. This monumental structure stands as a testament to his commitment to serve others and his unwavering belief in something greater. A veteran of the United States Army, Thurman served his country faithfully from 1953 to 1955. His military service shaped his character, instilling in him values of discipline and dedication that he carried throughout his life. His devotion to these principles translated into his work as a deacon at Sheridan Road Baptist Church in Tulsa for many years and later at the First Baptist Church of Locust Grove. After moving to Adair in 2000, he became a member at the Exciting Southeast Baptist Church, nurturing the faith of others and fostering a sense of community that was vital to so many. Thurman's love for the great outdoors was unmatched. He was an avid pilot, experiencing the freedom of flight that few can comprehend. Fishing and hunting were more than just hobbies; they were a way for him to connect with nature and with those he cherished. Many fond afternoons were spent in the quiet company of friends and family, sharing laughter and stories against the backdrop of the beautiful landscapes he adored. In his home, Thurman was known as a tinkerer, always on the lookout for a new project to engage his hands and mind. Those who knew him witnessed firsthand his joy in creating and maintaining the spaces he cherished—a reflection of the care he extended to all aspects of his life. Thurman Clay Hibbard’s life was marked by love, faith, and a genuine passion for helping others. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
