Verna Marie Chernisky

Verna Marie Chernisky, 90, of Tulsa, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at her home. She was born on November 19, 1932 in Twin Rocks, Pennsylvania; the daughter of Robert Lawrence and Mary Margaret (Kish) Rutledge. She married Albert Thomas Chernisky, Sr. on April 11, 1953 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage. Verna was faithful to attend St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Eufaula, and after moving to Tulsa after Albert’s passing, returned to her previous church, St. Pius X, as she was a catechism teacher in her younger years. Verna loved working needle point and crocheting. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and cherished each moment she had with them. Verna was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend and leaves behind many memories for her loved ones.  

Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2023 in the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Tulsa with Father Josh Litwazk and Father David Carajal officiating. Rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Tulsa. Verna is survived by her son, Albert Chernisky, Jr. of Melbourne, Arkansas; daughters, Theresa Campbell of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Anne Hughes of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sister, Johanna Weekes of Flinton, Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Rutledge; husband, Albert Chernisky, Sr. ; and daughter, Mary Jo Gulbrandsen.
