Billy James Pickup, Sr., 74, of Chouteau, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 in Tulsa. He was born in Salina, Oklahoma on April 1, 1947 to Bill Pickup and Ollie (Leaf) Pickup. Billy was known for his hospitality, jokes, art and crafts, and his drum playing. He enjoyed the company of his music and church family. He and his wife, Esther, hosted many singings in their home. Billy missed his bass player, John Sapp and his dialysis chair mate, Dennis Dry, he would always talk about them after their passing. Billy was a member of Elm Prairie Church. Billy and Esther united in marriage on September 27, 2003 and made their home in Chouteau, Oklahoma. He leaves behind many memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 3, 2021 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Richard Pickup officiating. Burial will follow in the Grass Cemetery in Salina with Blade Vincent, Tayleur Pickup, Nicholas Kingfisher, Caleb Turner, Shilo Harjo, and Roberto Ramires serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Jerry Lacy, Perry Crittenden, Freddie Stopp, Raymond Chuckluck and Cooper Lyman. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 2, 2021 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Billy is survived by his wife, Esther Pickup of the home; son, Billy J. Pickup, Jr. of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughters, April Pickup of Pryor, Oklahoma, Chasley Kingfisher and husband Timothy of Moody, Oklahoma, and Georgina Lyman and husband Cody of Eucha, Oklahoma; step son, Micco Wesley and wife Leann of Ignacio, Colorado; step daughters, Lydia Martinez of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Denise Aragon of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; brothers, Eddie Pickup of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Gene Pickup of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister, Brenda Torres of Ulysses, Kansas; 16 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 3 step great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Ollie Pickup, brothers, John, Duane, and Scott Pickup; sisters, Lorene, Sue, Mary Sue, and Joyce; one grandson, and 1 great grandson.
