Granville "GC" Martin

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in the honor of GC to The Counselors Fund at  Adair Highschool, which helps children in need or to Greenbriar Freewill Baptist Church.

Granville “GC” Martin, 71, a lifelong resident of Adair, departed from this life on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at his home. He was born on February 11, 1950 in Pryor, Oklahoma; the son of Curtis James Martin and Aleene Ruth (Craig) Martin. GC was a proud schoolteacher and taught at Salina Public Schools and Adair Public Schools. His overall service for the Adair school system was over 50 years, as both a teacher and guidance counselor. GC was on various boards around the county and enjoyed being apart of his community. He was on the Adair School Board, Retired Teachers, Farm Service Board of Mayes County, Strang Fire Board, and the Rural Water District #6 Board. He also was a lifelong member of Greenbriar Freewill Baptist Church in Adair, Oklahoma. GC was passionate about raising his cattle, both angus and limousine. He loved the NY Yankees and his hometown team, the Adair Warriors. GC enjoyed going fishing with his great nephews and spending time with friends. Above all, GC was a one of a kind man who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family and friends to cherish.

Funeral services for GC will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Adair Event Center in Adair, Oklahoma with Reverend Dustin Evans and Reverend Derek Bolin officiating. Burial will follow at Mayes-Martin Cemetery with Joe Paysinger, Rick Hopper, Virgil Bradshaw, Jack Dryden, Clifton Collins, and Russell Kruse serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Wayne Hopper, Wendell Jennings, Brock Floyd, Dustin Hopper, Roger Ackley, and Travis Berka. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2021 at Shipman’s Funeral Home. To leave his family a message, please visit his Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. GC is survived by his sister, Glenda Floyd and husband Andy of Adair, Oklahoma; nieces, Jodie Floyd of Pryor, Oklahoma and Jamie Floyd of Pryor, Oklahoma; nephews, Andy Floyd of Adair, Oklahoma and Curtis Floyd of Adair, Oklahoma; cousins, Garry Martin and wife Jean of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Dr. Richard Martin and wife Barbara of Pryor, Oklahoma; and numerous great nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Aleene.
