Jennie (Kingfisher) Ballou

August 28, 1930 — September 23, 2020

Jennie Sue (Kingfisher) Ballou, 90, of Salina, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at her home. She was born at home in Mayes County on August 28, 1930; the daughter of Reverend Skake Kingfisher and Peggy (Hungry) Kingfisher. She married Rufus Ballou, Sr. on June 17, 1955 and were married for 27 years until his passing in 1982. She was a member of the New Jordan Baptist Church and loved attending church services. She also enjoyed attending the Assembly Ground in Tahlequah and even cooked for the family camps there. In her spare time, she worked word search puzzles and hand quilted. She loved attending any family functions and spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was a wonderful woman of faith and leaves behind many memories for her family to cherish.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2020 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Grass Cemetery in Salina with Gerald Proctor, Joey Scott, J.P. Johnson, Zayden Dreadfulwater, Stewart Ross, and Terry Ballou serving ask casket bearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2020 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Jennie is survived by her sons, Rufus Ballou, Jr. and wife Andrea of Joplin, Missouri, Bobby Ballou and wife Amanda of Oaks, Oklahoma, and Carl Ballou and wife Toni of Salina, Oklahoma; daughters, Rhonda Kaye Ballou of Salina, Oklahoma, Dee Wadlow and husband Danny of Salina, Oklahoma, Marianne Coon and husband Mark of Salina, Oklahoma, Rose Jones and husband Gary of Salina, Oklahoma, Geraldine Ross of Kenwood, Oklahoma, and Ina Budder of Kenwood, Oklahoma; sister, Lou Lewis and husband Yazzie of Salina, Oklahoma; 42 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Skake Kingfisher and Peggy Hungry; husband, Rufus Ballou; daughter, Barbara Wickliffe; sons, Terry, Steven, and Ronald Ballou; brothers, Pete, Claude, Dick, Simon, and Steve Kingfisher; and sisters, Anna Kingfisher and Katie Ross.
