Kevin Gibson

November 25, 1961 — August 1, 2020

Kevin Eugene Gibson was born November 25, 1961 to Merle "Gene" & Elizabeth "Beth" Gibson in Oklahoma City, OK. He passed away at home surrounded by family on August 1, 2020. He grew up in Pryor and attended Jefferson Elementary, Pryor Junior High, and graduated from Pryor High School in 1980. He received several degrees from NSU, OSU, Redlands Junior College, and others. Kevin worked for ParFab Industries in Inola, OK for many years. Kevin was known as son, "big brother," friend, protector, and Uncle. Kevin always had a passion for math and science. He loved being outdoors. His nieces and nephews would be quick to tell you that he often tried to collect samples of belly button lint, teach them how "2+2 actually equals 5," and was the first person they would think to call for help with science projects. He had an eye for stained glass and other arts. Kevin was an intellectual and valued education (so much so that his family has joked he would have been a professional student if it had paid the bills).

There are no services planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Leukemia Research Foundation to support finding a cure for AML or to the education fund Kevin established for his nieces and nephews upon learning of his condition.  To leave his family a message, please visit his Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Shipman’s Funeral & Cremation Service.

Survived by his father and mother: Gene and Beth Gibson of Pryor, OK, his three younger siblings and their spouses: Mark & Shelley Gibson of Chouteau, OK, Eric & Kendra Gibson of Owasso, OK, and Liz & Randy Davis of Pryor, OK, his nieces & nephews: Shelby Harvey, Justin Gibson, Kyler Gibson, Kaycee Gibson, Seara Folmar, and Austin Folmar, and his great-nephew, Gavin Harvey. Along with other extended family and other close friends such as Naomi Gibson, TJ Caine, Tyler Evans, and Bob & Brenda Kay Frew.

Kevin died from Acute Myloid Leukemia after a long road of treatments and attempts at remission through chemo, blood transfusions, medical trials, a stem-cell transplant, and more. At the end, on hospice care, Kevin fought the gruesome cancer with peace. Kevin's passion for science and education was on his mind throughout his treatments. He selflessly asked that his body be donated to science and research to further the study of his type of leukemia.
