Vida “Pete” Joanna Smith, 72, of Pryor, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on April 6, 1947 in Yale, Oklahoma; the daughter of Clyde and Melvina (Rusco) Gear. Pete married the love of her life, Gene, on September 4, 1965 and they shared many years of happiness together. She served at her church home, First Church of God, for many years. She taught Sunday School for Youth in many churches over the years. Her church family brought a great amount of joy to her life and she loved attending church services and events. Pete also was a chaperone and cook for the children at Falls Creek Church Camp. She loved her family and leaves behind a legacy for them all to cherish. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services for Pete will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., at First Church of God with Andrew Rehbein and Lynn Higgins officiating. Burial will be in the Graham Memorial Cemetery with Michael Medders, Tim Smith, James Arrowsmith, Charles Arrowsmith, Dillon Arrowsmith, Dalton Arrowsmith, Kelly Medders serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2020 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Pete is survived by her husband, Gene, of the home; daughter, Melvina Medders and husband Kelly of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sisters, Mary Cartwright of Skiatook, Oklahoma and Zola Oster of Pryor, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Michael Kelly Medders and Susana Jasso of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Jessica Ellen Medders of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Melvina Gear; sisters, Henryetta Miller and Opal Gray; brothers, Robert Gear, James Gear, and Cecil Gear.
